From ABC, no less:
The bitter cold is causing its fair share of problems around Mid Michigan from closing schools to canceling evening activities.
One school district closed because of the freezing temperatures Monday, but then found another reason to cancel Tuesday: school buses stopped running.
The St. Louis and Alma school districts both run their buses on bio-diesel fuel...
The St. Louis School District is having to replace bio-diesel fuel with premium gasoline in their 13 school buses. It turns out while bio-diesel is environmental friendly, it doesn't like to be left out in the cold.
When the transportation director cut open a fuel filter, he knew right away it wasn't good. He says bio-diesel fuel should look like regular gasoline, but instead it was much thicker. He said it looked like fat lard...
Why, oh why would Michigan school districts do such a stupid thing like filling all their schoolbuses with enviromentally friendly gasoline that turns to lard in the cold Michigan weather? :
Dear Michigan School Transportation Decision Maker,
Have you been searching for a grant program to “kick start” your effort to switch to a healthier, more environmentally friendly diesel fuel for your school bus fleet?
Through the soybean grower funded checkoff program, the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee would like to announce a grant program exclusively for Michigan school system bus fleets approved today...
