But some of their bishops apparently believe in the wonderful things that make Iran Iran. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/09/nbishops09.xml

Mrs. Peperium

That Rt. Rev. Tom Burns is a Latin-rite Catholic bishop...

However, The Telegraph did take his Latin-rite bottom out to the woodshed rather nicely:

"Meanwhile, another section of the British Establishment has been sending out inappropriate signals. The Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, has suggested that Iran, led by its Holocaust-denying president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, showed greater moral and spiritual values than Britain's political leaders in resolving this crisis.

"Far worse, however, was a statement by the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Forces, the Rt Rev Tom Burns, who said: "Faith in a forgiving God has been exemplified by their good deeds. They are offering to release the sailors and Marines, not just as a result of diplomacy, but also as an act of mercy in accordance with their religion."

"Is it an act of mercy to stage a nasty little charade in which you release people you have kidnapped? And could not the bishop have found room in his statement for one word of criticism of a regime that sponsors acts of terrorism against young British men and women?

"Few senior people emerge with credit from this incident - unlike ordinary Service personnel, for whom bombs and kidnapping are daily hazards. They have been let down badly by the Ministry of Defence and, especially, by Bishop Tom Burns."

I believe one can make a very credible argument that "in accordance with their religion" Iran could also wipe Israel off the face of the map...
