Old Dominion Tory

I recall that the makers of the champagne Kristal [sp?] raised some sort of objection to their bubbly being known as the preferred tipple of the likes of Messrs. Diddy/Combs and Rhymes. Mr. Combs and others bristled at the company's attitude and swore off Kristal. The reaction in the press was a collective tsk-tsking that Kristal's makers had blundered by alienating people who had made them a lot of money. So, yes, the media is a little skewed in their thinking--as are far too many corporations.
As to "trash," I remember with great fondness the 1980s-1990s putdown of the assorted cads, spivs, tramps, and fools from across the pond as "Euro-trash."

Mrs. Peperium

Do you recall what happened with Pepsi?

Ludacris is the rapper Obama appears with. It now looks like Obama will be getting Al Sharpton's support.

Mrs. Peperium

Oh, and ODT, what do you think of Bernstein doing a Hillary book? Some are saying it is an intended hatchet job designed to take her out.

But I hesitate to write off the Clintons as too many of their former friends and associates are fired, jailed, or dead. I think people are hoping for a hatchet job. It will be a love fest instead.

Old Dominion Tory

Much of the depends on when the book comes out. If it hits the shelves before Iowa and New Hampshire--and she is handled roughly therein--then it might become a millstone for her, especially if she is lagging behind Obama.
Senator Rodham-Clinton's troubles stem from the fact that of all members of the Clinton family she ranks last behind Socks in popularity. She also is discovering that the Clinton machine is not so much a machine, but an odd sort of political fraternity centered on winning elections and burnishing the image of that big, loveable lug and instinctual politician Bill Clinton. They were never a "two-fer" couple; it always was about--and always will be about--him. She was present and, thus, had to be dealt with, elevated, and finally paid off in the style to which she readily became accustomed.

Mrs. P,
Why soil the pages of this perfectly fine blog with such filth-masquerading-as-poetry? I took your word that P.Diddy's lyrics were base without needing to actually read them...

Mrs. Peperium

Right now the MSM and media mover and shakers are making a public show of cleaning up their act to return us to more civility. First Imus, now Rosie. But those folks are not the problem. They are just the prominent faces on the problem.

When you read these lyrics you see a mindset so sick, it's beyond frightening. These media moguls, record execs and liquor execs want our kids. They need our kids to buy what they peddle so that they can summer in Southampton and throw great parties. What they are peddling is as deadly to our kids as the bullets fired by the VTech killer.

Mrs. Peperium

Here's the latest on cleaning up rap by a White Party attendee:

"Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons said Monday that the recording and broadcast industries should consistently ban three racial and sexist epithets from all so-called clean versions of rap songs and the airwaves...
"Currently such epithets are banned from most clean versions, but record companies sometimes "arbitrarily" decide which offensive words to exclude and there's no uniform standard for deleting such words, Simmons said...

"Expressing concern about the "growing public outrage" over the use of such words in rap lyrics, Simmons said the words "bitch," "ho" and "nigger" should be considered "extreme curse words."

"We recommend (they're) always out," Simmons, the pioneering entrepreneur who made millions of dollars as he helped shape hip-hop culture, said in an interview Monday. "This is a first step. It's a clear message and a consistency that we want the industry to accept for more corporate social responsibility."

"Last week, Simmons called a private meeting of influential music industry executives to discuss the issue. However, no music executives were associated with Monday's announcement by Simmons' Hip-Hop Summit Action Network..."

Removing those 3 words from Pass the Couvoisier does not clean up the intent of the song. Simmons is just peddling the idea he's reforming from within...

Mrs. Peperium

ODT, did you see this this morning?

He's talking about the "first black president" being rolled out to help Hillary... Hmmn...where was it we were just reading about that last week?

I am sensing some major dirty tricks will appear should Obama get too close to Hillary...major dirty tricks...but they won't come right away as Hillary does best as an underdog so she needs Obama right now...

Mrs P, Al Gore could say he was out ahead on this issue 20 years ago. Check out Martin Peretz' blog post at the New Republic: "Tipper was Right"

Peretz links to Michelle Malkin and the lyrics to the two top rap songs on the Billboard charts. Meantime, a commenter suggests a viewing of a video called "Tip Drill" by someone called Nelly for a really good taste of the genre. Ken Burns' Jazz it ain't.

Meantime, Peretz today links to an essay you may find interesting, by John McWhorter in the NY Sun. The title: "Great Society begets bad society."

McWhorter writes:

"On "60 Minutes" last Sunday, rapper Cam'ron told Anderson Cooper that he would not inform the police if a serial killer were living next door to him, as it would alienate his fan base.

"The "stop snitching" Zeitgeist has become a shibboleth of being "down with" your people in poor black neighborhoods and refusing to give the police information about a black-on-black homicide, even if you witnessed it...

"It is also a facet of a larger phenomenon: a sense among black teens and 20-somethings that being aggressive toward the opposition is the soul of being authentic. There has been this element in the black community since the 1960s, but these days, it is so deeply felt that it is tacitly approved to place anti-authoritarian sentiment over saving black lives..."

Mrs. Peperium

What is going on with Martin Peretz? Last year he said David Pryce-Jones was right about the Anglican/Episcopalian semitism. Pryce-Jones has long called them fellow travelers of Islam as they were fellow travelers with the Nazis in the early '30's...

Now this? Have things gotten this bad or is TNR becoming a conservative rag?

Gore could have said Tipper was right (which she was right on the money) until he started taking money to fund his presidential run from the same folks his wife criticized. I always thought tipper's mental health issues stemmed from the fact she was married to Al...

Old Dominion Tory

The First Black President already has been rolled out in Selma, Alabama to give credibility to Hillary and her southern-fried accent. As I said previously, calling on Bill is fostering a growing suspicion that she does not have the political skills and native charm, wit, and warmth to stand on her own as a national candidate. I don't think that the First Woman President narrative can carry her too far either.

Mrs. Peperium

ODT, this morning's edition where it is reported she refers to her husband as a cheerleader...

I don't know why I was surprised to see the reference to Jewish money. Black anti-semitism is only rarely spoken of but it exists, going back to the civil rights days (and earlier) when the Jewish kids who went South from schools like Brandeis to help, or so they thought, were manipulated by civil rights leaders. I guess the thing that struck me the most was how terribly insipid the lyrics are.

Say what you will about Imus, and there is no doubt he borrowed directly from the idiom expressed above, at least he was concise, unlike the Did-iot (pronounced like idiot but with a D in front).

Mrs. Peperium

Welcome RP. I love Didiot...marvelous, just marvelous.

Black anti-semitism is given a pass because the African American has suffered so much because of us.

Al Sharpton's anti-semitism has caused him to have the blood of 8 young men on his hands but does NBC, CBS or Hillary Clinton care?

I think they are given a pass because the notion of being held personal responsible for one's actions or for the consequeneces of one's thoughts is out the window. There exists a culture of officially lowered expectations for behavior. That is probably profoundly more racist and more destructive than anything Imus could say. So, they may care, but it seems to me that they expect less when they should be expecting more.

Mrs. Peperium

rp, we forgot to acknowlege in this space that yesterday was the whatever anniversary of of Hitler offing himself. I can't recall if it was a revolver to the back of the throat or the crunching on cyanide tablets but either way, it did the trick, didn't it?

We must also note that Judas Iscariot commited suicide after selling Jesus for 30 pieces of silver and that whack job at VTech who said Jesus was persecuting him also commited suicide....
