The Maximum Leader

If only we had more "papers of record" in the US.

Of course, I do like the Sun... So you know who I think should run the country.

Think of it as a preemptive move towards upgrading your collection from vinyl to CD. I've spent a number of years looking for albums that I had on LPs in CD format. The first serious record I ever bought, a version of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto recorded in 1958 (Alfredo Campoli and the London Philharmonic) , was re-released on CD by one of those odd little audiophile lables in the UK in the late 90s, but by the time I found out about it they were sold out. So I surfed eBay for years until one popped up, and I made an insanely-high bid just to get it.

Alas, I realize that not all these recordings will be made available, so a few years ago I bought a little computer gizmo that would clean up the sound from old records and tapes, digitalize them, and put them on your hard drive so that you could burn them off on CDs. Unfortunately, in my enthusiasm, I downloaded so many tapes that my computer crashed, and my wife eventually bought a Mac. I still have the gizmo, and expect that I will spend a happy retirement turning all my Colomiban salsa, Belarusian folk music and Ukrainian bandura choir records and tapes into CDs that I can throw into the CD player and cruise down the highway in my 2009 Chevy Malibu kicking them out.

I think your music collection was entirely defensible. :-D
