Mrs. P,

Thank you for posting this. That it comes from an Archbishop is a comfort; and a reminder that I should never exceed my modest allotment of cynicism, allowed me by my humanity, toward my own Church’s leaders.

Thank you for sharing this. It was most needed by me today.

George - "Modest allotment of cynicism"...I love that. You aren't really cynical- unless you consider Evelyn Waugh to be a cynic. Do you?

Kah81 -thanks. But really the thanks to to Archbishop Chaput. He's the one who said it.

Mrs. P,

Re: Waugh – no I don’t.

And re: cynicism; I was inspired by another George - Bernard Shaw - who cleared up the matter of “cynicism” once and for all (and much to my liking) when he observed:

“The power of observation is often called cynicism by those who have not got it”

As modestly as I can manage – “I have got it.”

Mrs. P

hahahahahahahaahahahaha
